In 2023, I found myself in the south of France. I do not always make great decisions, and this wasn’t supposed to be one of them. But here I was! I unpacked my boxes in Nîmes, and I’ve never left since then. Veni, vidi, vici!

Why did you move to Nîmes?

Needless to say, during my stay here, I often heard (and still hear) this question. Why Nîmes? Both les Nîmois and everybody else seemed startled, like I moved to hell or something. Why not? I kept thinking to myself. The city is as beautiful as the people in it. To this day, every time I go out, I have the sweetest encounters. If asked what I love the most here (but I’m never asked that), I’d definitely say the people! The sun would come second.

In fact, here’s a quick list of why I love Nîmes, in a very particular order:

  1. It’s around 45 minutes away from the beach.
  2. People are smiley, nice and very welcoming.
  3. It’s sunny!
  4. The canal is just beautiful.
  5. It’s not Montpellier (I’m kidding, relax you little Montpelliérain).
  6. You will most likely walk past a literal Roman Temple every day.
  7. You will most likely walk past a literal Roman Arena every day.
  8. The center is both vibrant and pleasant.
  9. The food is great and you have many nice restaurants to try.
  10. There are countless festivals and other events during the year.

Now what?

I want to share my passion for this city with people who care. If you’re interested, you can check out my Instagram page dedicated to it. You can also keep up with this blog. I did not touch ChatGPT while writing this. It’s my original content, probably very rare nowadays! 🙂
